I got a lovely surprise in my e-mail this morning. Bewitchments and Charmes, an Dramione one-shot I wrote a loooong time ago, is a featured story on The Petulant Poetess for June and July. I love that little story, and it's never gotten much love, so I'm tickled pink!

In other news, I had surgery four and a half weeks ago to finally deal with my cervical spinal stenosis. Recovery is long and slow, but it's progressing nicely. I feel pretty good overall, and I'm looking forward to life without pain and numbness--once I get this awful neck brace off. lol

WOW. Just read this press release from Amazon. They have established Kindle Worlds, where they will be selling fanfic for certain television fandoms, including Gossip Girl, Pretty Little Liars, and Vampire Diaries, with more coming soon.

*blinks*

Yes, they have received permission to do this. Amazon will be paying royalties to both the rights holder of the "World" and the fanfic author.

My mind is whirling with the possible effects this could have on those fandoms, not to mention other fandoms whose members may retrofit their stories to fit in with one of these in order to make some cash for their fanfic.

35% royalties for fanfic.

Whoa. This could be a game-changer.

ETA: Well, maybe not. Apparently if the rights holder thinks something in a story is good enough, they can include it in an episode and the author will get nothing. They can change anything they like. Basically, once the author uploads it, they have no more rights over their story. They get the 35% royalties, yes, but that's it. Also, when you look at the rules/regulations they're implementing, I can't imagine they'll see the traffic they're hoping for. No smut allowed. Hmm ...

Add that to concerns about people stealing people's stuff and uploading it as their own, and I have to wonder if Amazon realizes the trouble they've just bought. I foresee lots o' wank in the future! *begins popping the popcorn now*

Very interesting post. The comments and links ... yikes. Scary stuff.

He also links to another of his posts that is equally fascinating. This one is about self-publishing scams.

Just thought I'd share. :)

Just spent the last ... *counts* ... five hours or so reading through my LJ from start to finish. Not every post, but the ones that stood out. It just reminded me of how much I adore my f-list.

And I miss you.

Have you seen it? My SSHG Exchange gift is here, and it is ah-maaaazing. I am just thrilled to pieces about it. And it is a shameless bribe. Is that a Slytherin or what? LOL Love it! And I must say, that is definitely some powerful incentive there. I have some free time coming up in a few weeks--I have a feeling a certain story may be getting dusted off very soon. I want that quilt! *grins*

Reading through the comments, I was also completely overwhelmed by the love people still have for BtSaS, despite the super long hiatus. I was seriously considering pulling it a few months back, not knowing if I would ever find inspiration for it again.

Inspiration found.

Thank you. Seriously. Just ... thank you.

ShugHub went to the GoodWill store in the ritzy part of town today to look around and see what they had. He came home with a first edition Chamber of Secrets, the UK edition.

He loves me.

:D

When I received my prompts, I was immediately drawn to one. I wrote down a bunch of ideas, and narrowed things down to two options. I wrote out two very basic outlines and then... panic! Hermione was missing! I tried finding her, but she was hiding. *narrow eyes at Hermione* Not only that, she was teasing me by giving me glimpses of her but nothing more. So frustrating!

So today, lady_rhian and I had a bit of a brainstorming session over the phone. I explained the trouble I was having, and we went over both of the outlines. I really wasn't getting far--Hermione was still proving elusive--when suddenly something clicked into place. All the pieces suddenly came together, and the entire plot was laid out before me. Woo hoo!

I am soooo excited about this one. I'm itching to write it, and that hasn't happened in such a long time. *cheesy grin*

I forgot I was supposed to do this. Sorry!

I am pretty easy to please as long as there is a happy ending (i.e. they're both alive and together). ;) I enjoy fluff, angst, romance, drama, humor... all of it combined... it's all good. Love hurt/comfort. UST is always lovely, too. Not too keen on dark!fic, but then that's on my sign-up post, so I don't need to go into all that, I suppose.

Anyway, have at it and make it your own. Don't feel chained to the prompt--meaning, I don't care if you include every bit of what's in there. If you're inspired to take it in a different direction, go for it. Good luck, have fun, and may the Muse be with you!
